The Big Ten adds either Pittsburgh or Syracuse; the Big East, upon losing one of its most important members, reaches out of its geographic realm to add TCU and assure its continued BCS viability (it already has DePaul and Marquette for basketball, so another team from the Central time zone wouldn’t hurt), and the Pac-10 still adds Boise State and Utah.
In either scenario, the BCS conferences could suck up three of its most consistent infiltrators -- Boise State, TCU and Utah -- and quell some of the discussion about why those teams never play for national championships, even with undefeated records.
The Big Ten has several potential candidates that would make geographic sense for membership.

They made the argument that it would be good for UK because they'd become the most southern school in the conference instead of the most northern as they are in the SEC which would be a recruiting advantage, they would get to play in a better basketball conference, and the football team would have a greater chance of making it to a BCS bowl game.
